National Clamps – I beat them!

A few weeks ago, National Clamps decided to immobilise my car. Fair enough I’d have thought had I actually been parked illegally …. but I wasn’t. The permit was in the windscreen, in date and valid for where I’d parked. And here’s the proof.

I got back to my car to find the dreaded ‘boot’ and great big fuck off sticker warning me not to try and drive away. If anyone knows how to release these clamps without doing any criminal damage to them – leave a comment below please.

I took these pictures on my phone instantly and then rang the number. An ignorant – no other word will do here – bitch answered and simply wouldn’t believe the permit was on. She simply told me in no uncertain terms to pay or she’d hang up on me. The fee? £83.

With no other way of getting out of it I paid… and about ten minutes later their goon arrived. Mr Gary Khan is his name. And here’s a pic of him before the next part….

Clamper and damn proud of it. After he’d released me, I asked if he’d been the one who clamped me and he said no. Liar. I persistently demanded to know who had – so he threw the clamp down and squared up to me, chest out, fists clenched – voice raised telling me ‘don’t fuck with me’. Charming man. Well, brave I’m not, so I backed down. I’m not gonna argue too far with such a butt ugly goon. He’d already threatened me and I was pretty sure he’d have a go if I pushed too far.

But – the car park only had one way in and out. So I parked in his way and held him up for about half an hour… roughly as long as he’d held me up. Here’s a pic of him waiting..

So – off I went home, typed up a letter, sent them the photos and demanded a refund and told them I’d take them to County Court if they didn’t repay the money they’d effectively stolen from me.
A day or two later a letter arrived refusing me and telling me that as far as they were concerned that was that. And tough shit. So – next step – I issued a County Court summons for my £83 plus £25 costs. At first they said they’d defend… then as if by magic a letter arrived with a very nice refund cheque including my court costs. The letter said ‘they couldn’t attend court’. No idea why. Other than they are clearly a bunch of robbing bastards that knew I had the law on my side and they’d lose?

So here’s the thing. If you get clamped by any company (but especially National Clamps) and you’re parked legally – fight the bastards. You’ll win in the end.

I’m happy – I beat a bully.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! – YES! – AT LAST! = The government has finally decided to bring England into line with Scotland and outlaw this despicable practice… I’m deliriously happy that all those nasty, vindictive, snidey bastards will be put out of work. Good riddance to bad shit I say.

    We have done the same thing. Parked legally on the Monday displaying permit, parked same ont the Tues, but they clamped us. Intimidating and bullying us so we had to pay. Took them to court, they sent the self employed, sub contracted clamper to court who could not represent them. Case adjourned but not before telling the clamper that they basically had a hopeless case and to get a solicitor which they won’t.

    Now I see that all clampers on private land are to loose their licenses – best bit of common sense legislation to be passed in years!
